Who we are and what we do
Established in 1978, The Wallich is Wales’s leading homelessness charity. For nearly 50 years, we’ve been working at the heart of Welsh communities to support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to rebuild their lives.
Each year, we support around 8,000 people across Wales, delivering more than 100 projects spanning emergency accommodation, supported housing, prevention, outreach and employment support. Our mission is to give people not only a roof over their heads, but the tools, confidence and dignity they need to move forward with their lives.
From rough-sleeping outreach to long-term tenancy support, we take a person-centred, trauma-informed approach that addresses the root causes of homelessness, helping people regain safety, stability and hope.
Why we need support
Homelessness in Wales is rising. Every day, our teams work with people facing multiple challenges such as poor mental health, substance use, trauma, poverty and a lack of safe, affordable housing.
To meet growing demand, we need support to keep our services running and to invest in innovative, sustainable solutions – from mobile outreach vehicles to employment programmes that help people gain skills and independence.
Your support can help us respond faster, reach further, and change more lives across Wales. Together, we can build a future where no one is left without a home or hope.
Did you know?
The average life expectancy for someone who is street homeless is just 45 years old.
Mobile operations
Our Mobile operations team and vehicles enable frontline staff to reach people sleeping rough across Wales, delivering essential supplies, welfare checks and transport to accommodation and healthcare. Support will help us maintain and expand these vital mobile services and invest in sustainable, low-carbon vehicles to reduce emissions while delivering life-saving outreach.
Creative Arts & Employment
Through programmes such as Steps to Progress and creative engagement projects, we help people build skills, confidence and motivation to move towards work, training or volunteering. Support will enable us to grow these opportunities, breaking the cycle of homelessness through empowerment and self-belief.
Co-production and Lived Experience Initiatives
We believe people with lived experience of homelessness should shape the services designed to support them. By investing in co-production initiatives, such as our Lived Experience Shadow Board, we ensure our projects reflect real needs, build trust and create lasting change. Support will allow us to expand our co-production work so that people’s voices are not only heard but lead the way.
